Our Backup History page is one of the most popular among our customers for backup monitoring and troubleshooting. As part of the MSP360 Management Console 6.5.1 update, we're pleased to introduce some improvements to this page.
Firstly, we have added new Backup Plan statuses to the previously available Success, Warning, and Failed statuses. These new statuses include Scheduled, Running, Missed Run, and Deleted, which will provide better context to identify issues that need attention.
Secondly, we have added a Last Backup Plan result to quickly spot backup plans that had issues but were fixed in the following run. You can find the last backup plan result by looking at the color of the backup plan icon in the first column. Additionally, the Issues Only filter on the Backup History page will help you see only the backup plans with problems.
Finally, we have improved the listing of backup plans. Previously, the Backup History page only displayed backup plans that had run in a given month, which made it difficult to identify a backup plan that didn't run for some reason. With the update, all backup plans are now listed, even if they were deleted. Deleted plans are marked with a special status icon.
All new updates will be applied to the backup plans starting from April. Check it on the [Backup History Page].(https://mspbackups.com/AP/BackupHistory)
The benefits of the New Backup Format are now available for macOS and Linux Backup users, including:
Note: In the beta version, synthetic full backup, GFS (Grandfather-Father-Son), Forever Forward Incremental backup, and object lock are currently unavailable.
The Quick Restore application will allow files to be restored from macOS/Linux backups to a Windows computer or source computer running under macOS/Linux OS. The Quick Restore application for macOS/Linux is not yet available.
Have you ever forgotten or lost your encryption password?
With MSP360 Password Recovery Service, you can recover lost or forgotten encryption passwords and restore encrypted backups.
Enable Encryption Password Recovery in the Settings>Password Recovery menu in the MSP360 Management Console
We're excited to introduce MSP360 Backup 6.3, which comes with Forever Forward Incremental Backup and Intelligent Retention. This addition to the New Backup Format allows storing only one backup generation, including one full backup followed by a series of increments. This new feature helps to reduce storage requirements for the New Backup Format.
Starting from version MSP360 Backup 6.3 and Windows Backup 7.8, Forever Forward Incremental backups are available only with the New Backup Format and for Amazon S3, Wasabi, Azure, Backblaze B2, and S3-compatible storage services.
Please note that the Forever Forward Incremental option doesn't support local storage, S3 Glacier Flexible Retrieval, S3 Glacier Deep Archive, or Azure Archive. Also, you need to update the Backup for Windows agents to version 7.8 or higher.
To enable this option, create a new backup plan or edit an existing one, go to the Schedule Options step and select the Forever Forward Incremental option.
With Forever Forward Incremental, we have also introduced the Intelligent Retention option. When enabled, the software automatically checks cloud storage for a minimum retention period and adjusts your settings accordingly. As a result, you will not pay for duplicated data on storage in case of minimum storage duration and retention policy misconfiguration.
Another big thing we are excited to introduce in 6.1 is the Backup Storage browser located in the computer management side panel on the Remote Management page. Now you can browse backup storage for every plan on every computer and drill down to the individual file level.
We've added a Quick Restore application to restore files and folders from the web interface. Start the Quick Restore application from the new Backup Storage browser on the Remote Management page, pick a file, folder, or the whole backup set and download it to the backup source or your local computer. The Backup Storage browser and Quick Restore application work for online and offline computers.
With release 6.1, we improved the performance of the Remote Management. It now takes seconds to load, no matter how many computers are in the system. We have also introduced pagination and improved search and filtering.
You can also quickly view the status of the backup plans by hovering on the status bar next to the computer name.
Searching for computers has also been improved on the new Remote Management page. Now you can search and filter by computer and company name, operating system type, online status, and IP address. More filters are to come with the following updates.
Let us know what else you want to see in the search bar by posting a feature request at our feedback portal.
We have already introduced immutability for Amazon S3 and Wasabi Hot Cloud storage, which restricts any malicious or unauthorized changes to your data to keep it safe from ransomware or other cyberattacks. With MSP360 Backup 6.0, we have now introduced the immutability (object lock) feature with Backblaze B2 storage.
To start using immutable backups with Backblaze B2, go to the Storage tab, Storage Accounts section and create a new backup destination or edit the existing one. Tick the Allow Immutability box to enable this feature.
Once you are done, proceed to backup plans to enable the Immutability for specific backup plans, along with the GFS retention policy.
In addition to the new backup plan wizards for virtual machines, MSP360 Web Console 5.9.4 and MSP360 Windows Backup 7.6 bring the following features and improvements:
EFS encryption support
MSP360 Backup now supports backup and restore of the EFS-encrypted files "as is", i.e. in an encrypted state. EFS encryption setting is located on the "Advanced Options" step of the backup plan wizard and offers two options:
This feature is only available in the File Backup plans with New Backup Format and Windows Backup version 7.6 or higher. Learn more about EFS-encrypted File Backup
Download a PDF invoice
Now you can download the invoice for the purchase directly from the Purchase History tab. To do this, click the Invoice button next to the required transaction. The invoice will open in a new tab.
New Backup Format Restore Improvements
In the latest releases, we also improved the restoration of large numbers of files for the New Backup Format and introduced a lightning-fast multi-thread restore of image-based, VMware and Hyper-V restore plans.
MSP360 Management Console 5.9.4 introduces a beta version of backup plan wizards for Hyper-V and VMware. Before version 5.9.4 it was possible to configure and manage VM backups with New Backup Format on the backup agents only. Now we extend this functionality to MSP360 Management Console which allows users to create and edit backup plans in the web console.
The beta version comes with a list of known issues and limitations, including:
With MSP360 Management Console 5.9.1 we released an option to configure and apply a global overdue setting to multiple backup plans in bulk.
What is Backup Plan Overdue Status
Backup plan overdue status indicates a backup plan that didn't start according to the schedule. It helps MSPs and backup administrators to identify missed backups and address possible issues. Overdue option can be configured for each individual plan in the Backup Plan Wizard on the "Schedule Options" step.
How To Configure Overdue Settinngs For Multiple Backup Plans
MSP360 Backup is designed to simplify backup management for MSPs and backup administrators by allowing them centrally manage hundreds of cumputers. Overdue status is critical to ensure backups are in current state and sometimes it's required to apply new or change an exisitng backup plan overdue settings on multiple computers.
Instead of wasting hours on editing backup plans on each individual computer MSP360 allows to configure and apply global overdue settings to multiple backup plans in a few clicks.
Go to Compters>Monitoring/History page in the MSP360 Management Console and perform the following steps:
Summary
What's new? Big things, actually. We've been busy making upgrades for an even better MSP360 platform. Now with MSP360 Management Console version 5.8, you can try out new web-based restore plan wizards that are compatible with the New Backup Format. Also, we've changed the date and time format to be consistent everywhere in the web console, improved scheduling options for the new backup format, and introduced a new name for our remote desktop solution.
New Restore Plan Wizards
The new version of the MSP360 platform introduces web-based restore plan wizards to configure recovery of the data backed up with the new backup format. Now users can configure file and image-based restore plans using step-by-step wizards directly from the web console. To run a restore wizard go to "Computers" > "Remote Management" page click on a computer name you want to configure a restore job for, click on a "plus" icon, and pick either "Files" or "Image-based" option to open a restore plan wizard dialog.
Consistent Date and Time Format
One of the improvements that a lot of customers were waiting for is a consistent date and time format for backup plans that accounts provider's time zone and the agent's local time zone. Now the default web control panel date and time zone can be configured on the Settings>General page with the "Time zone" drop-down menu. This will be the default provider's time zone displayed across the web console.
Also, the backup agent's local date and time are set according to the computer's local time zone and can be viewed from the web control panel. In the backup plan settings and on the backup history page, you can find tooltips that show 3 different time zones that might be important to know: the local time zone of the browser where you access the web control panel, the default provider's time zone that is set in the MSP360 web console settings, and local time zone of the software agent.
Improved Scheduling Options With The New Backup Format
For those who need to run a backup plan less frequently than every other week or every other month, we have added a "Repeat Every" option to set a required frequency for monthly or weekly backups. You can configure this option in the backup plan wizard on the "Schedule Options" set under "Recurring (incremental)" settings.
Meet MSP360 Connect and Performance Improvements
We’re excited to announce that Remote Desktop has a new name, MSP360 Connect, and it’s more powerful than ever. We’ve also greatly improved the internals and performance, setting the stage for many new features to come. Connect 3.0 now implements the WebRTC transport protocol. WebRTC is an open-standard project for providing applications, web browsers, and mobile applications with real-time communication. The WebRTC transport protocol is more efficient, and faster, and allows for most connections to be direct for even better performance. In future releases, the addition of WebRTC will allow true, browser-based connections. For now, though, you’ll get the benefit of more direct connections and faster performance.
